It lists industry-related professional organizations and government offices. It also includes biographical information about important individuals in the industry. Published by the Census Bureau, this is an annual series that provides substate-level economic data going back to 1964. The series is useful for studying the economic activity of small areas; analyzing economic changes over time; and as a benchmark for statistical series, surveys, and databases between Economic Censuses. The series excludes data on self-employed individuals, agricultural production employees, and most government employees. Starting in 1998 all industries are listed by NAICS for industry, number of establishments, total employees, and payroll for annual and first quarter.
